As a Deva, Ankhala has lived many lives but only remembers them in pieces and in tenor. As such, the actual details and surroundings of his current life seem unimportant to him in the grand scheme. Around others, he is aloof and dismissive, yet formal and terse in his speech. He sees death as a tool rather than something to be feared. His goal is not to live his current life to the fullest, particularly in terms of material gain, but rather to clear a path for his future self to live a life without evil and pain. He remembers his past, both in current and past lives, with disdain, and wants only to destroy everything evil and monstrous in the world so that his next self will have a clean and peaceful place to live.

Between lives Ankhala has vague memories of living amongst gods and higher beings, so the creatures and people around him seem less important and less perfect. He sees himself as one of these imperfect beings, but strives to become more like them despite his failings. He also lives in fear of being born as a lesser being as a result of his failings in his current life. This close relationship with the gods also allows him to communicate with them, using them to guide his hand in life, particularly in battle. He shares with them a kinship but also sees them as tools to accomplish his goals. He particularly favors The Raven Queen for her association with death, death not only allows him to create a blank slate in his life but is the tool with which he improves the world around him and improves his place within the next life.

Ankhala wields a staff-like weapon with a blade on the end, giving it the appearance of Death’s sickle. He wields it in the style of a quarterstaff. This weapon allows him to battle with agility while symbolizing the death he has become obsessed with. Beyond this and some simple but beautiful robes, he does not keep many possessions. His associations are similarly seen as tools to assist him in the achievement of good.
